Dr. Elizabeth (Libby) McCourt (B.Pharm, GradCertIntPubHlth, PhD) is a consultant for Disaster Pharmacy Solutions and works in Brisbane, Australia as a Research Co-ordinator for the Allied Health Profession Office of Queensland and as the Quality Use of Medicines Pharmacist at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Libby’s research focuses on how the pharmacy workforce can be better prepared for disasters and how primary and tertiary care can be better integrated in their disaster preparedness and response.
In 2018, Libby was awarded the Deeble Health Policy Research Scholarship for her work around pharmacist preparedness for pandemic response. In 2020, she was awarded the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) Young Pharmacist Grant which enabled her to travel in Australia and New Zealand to continue her research about disaster preparedness and response. In 2021, Libby joined the SHPA National Research Leadership Committee. She is the secretariat of the World Association of Disaster and Emergency Medicine Primary Healthcare special interest group.
Dr McCourt has experience working as a pharmacist in the aftermath of disasters and has worked in health and education sectors in Australia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and the Solomon Islands. Her experiences in these settings have developed her research interest in disaster preparedness and public health. Libby’s aim is to assist in developing a more prepared pharmacy workforce that is integrated into disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
