Pediatric Medication Safety Officer

Dr. Meghan M. Rowcliffe, PharmD, BCPPS is the Pediatric Medication Safety Officer at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She attended the University at Buffalo for pharmacy school, and completed residency training at Yale-New Haven Hospital, which included one year of general pharmacy practice followed by a year in pediatrics. Her pediatric residency included a longitudinal rotation focused on medication-use safet and this is where her interest in medication safety started. Dr. Rowcliffe has achieved board certification in pediatrics and completed the ASHP-ISMP Medication Safety certificate program. Within the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Meghan participates in efforts designed to mitigate and ideally prevent medication errors before they occur, the investigation of actual errors, and serves as chairman of multiple interdisciplinary safety committees including the Pediatric Medication Safety Committee. This interdisciplinary committee within the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center is charged with overseeing issues involving the safe use of medications in the pediatric population. At a national level, Meghan has been a member of the ASHP Medication Safety Section Advisory Group for several years.
