Christina Michalek is the Director of Membership and Patient Safety Organization at the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, and Administrative Coordinator for the Medication Safety Officers Society. Christina earned her pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, completed a PGY1 residency, and is a Fellow of ASHP. At ISMP, she works collaboratively with health-system leaders and clinical staff to define, design, and improve medication safety initiatives. Chris manages the update and analysis of ISMP’s Targeted Medication Safety Best Practices, is the lead for medication-related technology issues, serves as Chair of the Leapfrog BCMA Expert Panel, and co-chaired ECRI’s Partnership for Patient Safety HIT CDS for Drug-Allergy Interactions and Safe Practices to Reduce CPOE Alert Fatigue workgroups. Chris has presented at national, international, local, and state-level professional meetings, and has had adjunct faculty appointments at several schools of pharmacy. She has more than 20 years of acute care pharmacy experience including clinical, management, and leadership roles. Chris is a member of ASHP, PSHP, and the Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA). She is a past presidential officer of BMPSHP and Pharmacist of the Year for PSHP. She currently serves on the Small and Rural Hospital Section Advisory Group for ASHP, the Special Interest Group on Medication Safety for PPA, and the Meeting Programming and Medication Safety Committees for PSHP.
