Melissa Ortega, PharmD, MS, FASHP System Executive Director, Ambulatory Services at Wellforce the parent of Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Ma. Melissa has focused her career on championing pharmacy practice advancement initiatives locally and nationally across the care continuum. Her oversight includes the retail and specialty pharmacies, medication access services, pharmacy fiscal and reimbursement services, population health, transitions of care and ambulatory pharmacy informatics, virtual care models, and payer contracting. Recently, Melissa has led efforts in securing dual- accrediatation for the specialy pharmacy program and expanding clinical program across the system. She has published around pharmacy leadership, specialty pharmacy, acute care operations, and pharmacy outcomes. Previously at Tufts, Melissa contributed to several key initiatives within acute care operations, including implementing new technology throughout various phases within the medication use process, advancing technician practice, and expanding decentral clinical pharmacy services. Melissa received her doctorate of pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fl., and completed her pharmacy practice and health-system pharmacy administration residencies at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Locally, Melissa served as President of the Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 2018. Nationally, Melissa has a sustained contribution to the ASHP Sections and received an honor to participate in the Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce. Most recently, Melissa serves as Chair of the new ASHP Section of Community Pharmacy Practitioners.
